OUTSTANDING CIVIL ENGINEERING
ALUMNI AWARD
Each year we seek to recognize one or more of our civil engineering graduates who have contributed to our profession in accordance with criteria established by our alumni Board of Governors:
* Advancement of knowledge in the field of civil engineering
* Exercise of civil engineering expertise for the benefit of the general public
* Demonstrated excellence in the teaching of civil engineering
* Achievements in the practice of civil engineering which contribute to the recognition of the civil engineering profession
The Civil Engineering Alumni Association is pleased to announce the recipient selected to receive our most esteemed award in 2009.
Congratulations to Delbert F. Boring.
Mr. Boring is a 1971 graduate of The Ohio State University (B.S.C.E.) and received a master’s degree in structural engineering from Ohio State in 1979. He is a registered professional engineer, and the co-author of four publications on fire protection.
Mr. Boring retired in December 2007 as vice president of construction market development for the Washington, DC-based American Iron and Steel Institute. His career included experience with the Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corporation; the Ohio Department of Industrial Relations, Board of Building Standards; and The Ohio State University, Building Research Laboratory.
In 2008, the Metal Construction Association recognized Mr. Boring,for his service to the metal construction industry and to the association by awarding him the Larry A. Swaney Award. During his career, Boring was recognized for his leadership and technical expertise. He was awarded the prestigious ANSI (American National Standards Institute) Meritorious Service Award in 2000 in recognition of his significant contributions to the voluntary consensus standards system. He also received the ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) Award of Merit in 1990 and the ASTM Committee E-5 Award of Recognition in 1986 and 1989.
