Student Send-OffAug 28 Written by: MessyMechE The OSU Alumni Club of Greene County throws an awesome picnic every year for OSU students... You thought you'd found a friend Just one year ago, I was an eager prefrosh (pre-freshman) starry-eyed and ready to start life at OSU. One of the cooler memories from last Fall was the annual student send-off that the OSU Alumni Club of Greene County organizes. It brings together a bunch of incoming freshmen with some older students and the absolutely awesome adult alumni of OSU. After some delicious free food (a sure indicator of greatness for any college-related event), students are treated to some real Buckeye Spirit in the form of Buckeyeman! This is one very dedicated alumnus who bursts with Buckeye Pride. All students get their very own Buckeye necklace and learn a few OSU cheers (O-H! I-O!). Next, there is the student panel where current students address some common questions about what to expect during your first year at Ohio State. This is where it gets strange for me. A year ago I was watching the panel answer questions; this time around I was on the panel! It was a great chance to talk about my experiences with OSU in Honduras and England, along with the more normal topics like finding good study spaces and getting involved with some of the 904 student groups on campus. Finally, the most important part of the picnic finished things out: Carmen Ohio. It’s a short song, but the message behind it is what counts: “How Firm Thy Friendship, O-hi-o.” No matter how old you get or how new you are, the Buckeye Family has got your back. And THAT is the most important thing I learned from the Greene County Alumni Club. Investigate the OSU Alumni Clubs web page and see if there's an alumni club in your area! Take care,
