FREDERICKTOWN TOMATO SHOW PARADE 2006
The Knox County Club had an entry in the Tomato Show Parade in Fredericktown on Sept. 9. In keeping with the theme of "Main Street Celebration", we invited recent OSU grads and incoming freshmen to ride along to "Celebrate Education, Celebrate Graduation, and Celebrate an OSU victory". These young Buckeyes showed enthusiasm as they led the crowd in the "O-H" cheer and passed out candy. Thanks to all who participated.2006 SPRING/SUMMER
Helping man our booth at the 2006 Lion's Club Garage Sale were Bob Wise, Karen Wise, and secretary Bob Lantz, wearing a fashionable scarlet and gray boa.
OSU MEN'S GLEE CLUB CONCERT
A HUGE SUCCESSAn audience estimated to be between 750 - 850 enjoyed an outstanding concert presented by the OSU Men's Glee Club on April 27 in Mount Vernon. Dr. Robert Ward and his 65 young men entertained the crowd with selections ranging from to Shubert and Mendelssohn to Sondheim and ABBA. We traveled from the Renaissance to the present with stops at Ragtime and Barber Shop music. The Buckeye fans were on their feet as the concert concluded with a Buckeye Medley.
Thanks to contributions from the Community Foundation of Mount Vernon and Knox County and the Community Concert Association of Knox County, the concert was free for everyone. The audience included some students as well as many senior citizens. Several area senior resident facilities brought their residents and expressed appreciation for the chance to hear the Glee Club.
We are also grateful to Kroger and Subway of Mount Vernon. Through their donations of food, we were able to provide the singers with a pre-concert snack as well as a meal afterwards.
2006 WINTER SPORTS
Family and friends of the Knox County Alumni Club attended the Women's BASKETBALL game against U of M on Sunday, January 15. The Lady Bucks continued their winning ways with a 62 - 34 victory over the Wolverines.
Before the game several members and family visited the Fred Taylor Room in the Schott for an Alumni Reception. Besides eating plenty of pop corn, some had their photo taken with Brutus.
Our Club also attended the OSU vs. Notre Dame HOCKEY game on Sat. January 28. V.P. Tom Albaugh reported that the seats were great - some just 3 rows from the glass. The Notre Dame Irish edged out the Bucks 1 - 0. (But we beat them in the Fiesta Bowl!)
KNOX ALUMNI CLUB PARTICIPATES
IN 2005 FOOD FOR THE HUNGRY
The Knox County Alumni Club was active in last year's county-wide Food for the Hungry food drive. First we decorated a Christmas tree for the Psi Iota Xi Auction that sold for $2000. The tree included hand-strung garland of red beads and Knox County buckeyes, hand-crafted block O's, red and gray balls with OSU emblems, and silver bells. It was topped by Brutus who played the fight song and "Hang on Sloopy". Archie Griffin even autographed an OSU football Christmas ornament that was hung on the tree. An Ohio State tree skirt added the finishing detail!
Click to see a larger image of the tree and its decorators, Audrey Spearman, Liz Dumaree, and Jan Schild.
On the day of the food drive, 18 club members and their relatives were responsible for driving the pick-up trucks from their dealers to the seven collection points around the Mount Vernon and Gambier area. In the afternoon, members retrieved the trucks, had them weighed at City Hall and unloaded at Interchurch and the Salvation Army, before returning them to the dealers.
Thanks to all the members who drove the trucks or shuttled the drivers back to their vehicles.
FOOTBALL Football season included game-watching parties at Flappers in Mount Vernon. The sale of Buckeye necklaces, club T-shirts, and 50/50 raffle tickets brought in proceeds of over $600 for our scholarship fund. Thanks to all who participated.
GO BUCKS!!
At the September 2005 Alumni Leadership Conference, the Knox County Club was presented with a banner as an OUTSTANDING CLUB. Pres. Bill Gillogly, seen with Brutus, was also honored as a Buckeye All-Star Alumnus in recognition for his hard work with our club.

2005 ANNUAL MEETING
The 2005 annual meeting and banquet was held Thursday, October 27, at the Mount Vernon Country Club. 86 Knox County alumni and friends attended the event and were treated to a delicious dinner and entertaining speakers. Scholarship winners Cassie Loney ('04) and Jamie Banbury ('05) gave alumni a taste of present-day life on campus. OSU Alumni Association Vice-President for Outreach, Kathy Bickel, pumped up the crowd before the "main event", Bill Hosket. Bill shared past experiences with OSU and Big Ten basketball and presented his recipe for effective groups - each member working to make his teammates successful.
President Bill Gillogly relinquished his gavel to new President Jan Schild. Other officers for the current year were also elected.
. . .
The evening ended with Dean Spearman, assisted by Cassie Loney, conducting an auction. Thanks to the bidders, $400 was added to the club's scholarship fund. The choice item was a basketball which Hosket personalized for the buyers, John and Sue Burkhart.
Chairman Roger Dumaree and his committee are to be congratulated on a terrific evening.
Picnic with the Pops on July 29, 2005
The Knox County Alumni Club attended Picnic with the Pops in Columbus when the OSU Marching Band performed with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. It was a great evening of outstanding music with the OSUMB playing all our Buckeye favorites and then joining the orchestra for a variety of songs and audience participation. The evening ended with a terrific fireworks display!
Mount Vernon Bicentennial Parade on July 16, 2005Our club was represented in the parade by Pres. Bill Gillogly and our 2005 scholarship winner, Jamie Banbury. Thanks to Donley Ford for providing the convertible.
Mount Vernon Lions' Club Garage Sale at the Fairgrounds Club members Bill Gillogly, Sean Cull, and Bob Lantz were among workers at our booth at the Garage Sale on May 21. We had a great selection of new and "slightly used" items that attracted many buyers. OSU sweatshirts were popular as were the ball caps with a blinking logo.
During the day we spread the word about our club, added some new members, and took in over $300. All in all, a very successful day.
Thanks to all who donated time and items to make the project a success.
KNOX COUNTY CHEERS ON OSU WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The Knox County Alumni Club did its part cheering the Lady Bucks to a 69-58 victory over Penn State on February 27, 2005. We were among a Big 10 and OSU record crowd of 17,525 watching a women's basketball game.
KNOX COUNTY DOES HOCKEY, TOO! The nationally ranked #10 OSU hockey team defeated the 3rd ranked Wolverines from that state up north as members and friends of the Knox County Alumni Club cheered them on. We were among the 14,777 spectators for the 4 - 1 victory on January 21, 2005. Our seats, within 8 rows of the ice, gave us an "up close and personal" view of the game and of the sound of players being checked into the glass.
In December 2004 our Club helped with Knox County's
Food for the Hungry Christmas food drive.
SEE MORE about the project.
Over 70 alumni and friends attended the 2004 banquet. They enjoyed hearing about campus activities from Ashley Anderson and Craig Little, from the OSU Alumni Association, in addition to the presentation by Mike Lanese.
