Club Volunteer Opportunities

The success of the club depends on the volunteers who make things happen. We're always looking for help on single events or year long commitments. If you have time to help, please let us know by sendinf an e-mail to volunteer@osusandiego.com. We will add you to our "volunteer request" e-mail list and send out requests when needed.

Current needs are listed below.

Event volunteer. The club has events through out the year. We're always looking for people who have time to donate to help make events successful.

Event chair. We're always open to try new events. If you have an idea for an event, we want to hear from you. The event chair will define the event, cost, promotion, collect attendee lists and set the program timeline with help of other club volunteers.

College fair volunteer. The OSU club attends about 5 college fairs each year. Volunteers are needed to answer general questions about OSU, admissions, campus life. You may also pass out university information. The fairs are usually about 3-4 hours. You may help with 1 or all of the college fairs.

Web site. The OSU SD web site is updated periodically throughout the year to promote events and share information with members. It is currently low tech using HTML and some PHP. It was built in 1996. We need someone who can commit 4-8 hours per month to support the site with updates, pages additions, changes as needed. If you have more time, a complete site overhaul is also overdue.

Newsletter production. The club mails 2-3 paper newsletters per year. Looking for someone with graphic art experience to keep the club newsletter looking great. Your experience with print houses and mailing services would also be helpful.

Gift shop attendant / welcome table. The San Diego game watch parties are an exciting event on Buckeye Saturdays. We need volunteers to support the gift shop table by selling OSU gear and welcoming club members. You may need to carry supplies and setup 30 minutes prior to kick off. Morning games see the most traffic. As a benefit for donating prime game watching time, a seat and table will be reserved for you for each game. We need help at Moondoggies in Pacific Beach and maybe at a North Country location when an official site is secured.

Event photographer. Need help taking pictures at club events. We ask you bring a digital camera and e-mail pictures to be added to the club web site.

Event reporter. If you have a way with words, we need your help. We're looking for someone to help author articles for the web site and newsletters. You can cover club events or any other Buckeye special interest news items.

Fundraising chair. The San Diego club officers have set a goal to increase the scholarship fund balance to $100,000 by 2010 (balance on 7/28/08 is $72k). We're looking for creative people to help us set and implement strategy to meet that target.

Basketball event chair. When Buckeyes get together to root on the team, the team does better. We need you to help organize the San Diego effort. There are many games and some conflict with work schedules. We need someone to pick the top 5-10 games and build the momentum to keep the party going.

Graphic artist. The club creates new club t-shirt each year. We may also create logos and images for the club newsletter and web site. We need someone with graphic art skills. We hope to find someone who has put together fundraising type merchandise.
