The Ohio State
University Alumni Club of Scioto County was chartered in
1975.
Our club has a scholarship fund housed at the Scioto Foundation which
is a 501C3 organization, and as such, any
donations can of
course be counted as a tax deduction. Any donation to our club will be
greatly appreciated and put directly into our scholarship fund. For
more information about donations please view our Donations
page.
Our club is a small
group of dedicated alum’s and supporters. We do not
charge
dues or meet on a regular basis. Our meetings are centered
around
our fund raising events – the Buckeye Golf Scramble and the
Buckeye Run. In addition we hold meeting on an as needed
basis
throughout the year. These meetings are announced via our
distribution list, which is maintained by Amanda Canary Watkins, our
secretary. If you don’t presently receive these
announcements of upcoming events and wish to do so, please drop Amanda
a note and ask her to put you on the list. Amanda’s
email
address is missohio2001@yahoo.com.
The primary goal of
our club is to raise funds for our scholarship endowment at the Scioto
Foundation. We have raised over $20,000 in the past five
years
thanks to the matching funds from the foundation’s POEM
program. We raise money from two primary fund
raisers. The
Buckeye Golf Scramble held the last Saturday in April at Shawnee Golf
Resort and the Buckeye Run also held on Saturday in late
August.
For both events we have had a loyal group of supporters who have helped
us with funds and merchandise to give away. Monies raised for
our
scholarship fund are awarded each year in May for the following school
year. Graduating seniors from Scioto County high schools who
plan
to attend OSU in the fall are eligible to apply. A list of our great
supporters over the past few years can be found under donations,
and a list of the last few years
scholarship winners can be found under Scholarships.
Other events the
club is involved in center around appearances by officials or groups
from the Ohio State University. Examples of this include the
appearances of Archie Griffin and E. Gordon Gee. Groups which
have visited Portsmouth include the Ohio State University Marching Band
(several times) and Men’s glee Club. At events such as
these the club will also have small
raffles, split the pot, sale of Buckeye necklaces, and other small fund
raisers to benefit the scholarship fund. For a list of upcoming events
visit our News,
Events, & Activites page.
