2008-2009 Scholarships

2009 Scholarship Interviews Held Numerous applications were received and narrowed down to nine applicants that were each interviewed on February 15th. Recommendations have been sent to OSU and they will make the final decision on the five scholarships available. Recipients will be notified around May or June.

The Ohio State University Alumni Club of Shelby County is pleased to announce their eight scholarship recipients for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Derek McCracken from Anna High School was selected as this year's freshman recipient of the Ralph J. Stolle Academic Scholarship, a 4 year renewable award which was first given in 1992. He joins recent
area scholars who have earned this Michael Seeger (Sidney), Kathleen Buehler (Anna) and Kathleen Kerrigan (Lehman), all presently at OSU.

The Emerson Climate Technologies/Copeland Scholarship, which was first awarded in 2006, goes to Aaron Stevenson (Lehman) who earned this award for the coming school year. Victoria Holthaus (Ft. Loramie) will receive the first Elaine Laughlin Buckeye Scholarship, named to forever recognize Elaine's untiring support of our Buckeye youth.

Jennifer Paulus (Lehman) was awarded the Shelby County Alumni Scholarship, receiving income generated by life memberships in the local organization. Michelle Carman (Jackson Center) will utilize funds from the Alumni
Scholars Program, an alumni offering the local club may issue due to their affiliation with The Ohio State University Alumni Association.

Nine candidates were interviewed this year out of the 19 applicants received. The local club forwards rankings of students with the University making the final selections. Scholarship applications and supporting information for the 2009-2010 school year will be available from school guidance counselors in December. Awarding over $240,000 to 66 students since the club was organized in 1981, this club is one of the top alumni clubs both in number of scholarships and dollars awarded. The mission of the club is to: Promote student scholarship, enthusiasm, loyalty and support for The Ohio State University among Buckeye faithful.

Voluntary Scholarship Contributions

Recognizing that many of our Life Members and other Ohio State supporters have the desire, willingness, and means to continue supporting our scholarship endowment, we are soliciting Voluntary Scholarship Contributions from all Buckeye backers. We are offering this opportunity to make a voluntary contribution annually. All such contributions, as is the case with all of our dues, will be applied fully to the Shelby County OSU Scholarship Endowments administered by the Department of Development of The Ohio State University
