Alumni Scholars Program

The Alumni Scholars program is one of our most successful functions of our club.  This is where a large portion of our fund raising effort is invested.  The information and applications for the program are mailed to local high school counselors in the fall.  The scholarship committee meets during the winter to review the applications and select the recipients.  The Alumni club sponsors three high school seniors, living in Summit County, who plan on attending Ohio State.  The scholarships are based on merit and are $1,300 each.  Students who apply must be in the upper fourth of their graduating class and have exhibited leadership in their school and service in the community.

2010 was the thirtieth year for the Alumni Scholars Program.  The program presents an opportunity for the OSU Alumni Club of Summit county to provide recognition and financial assistance to outstanding incoming freshmen.   The Ohio State University's Office of Development provides the money for the Alumni Scholarship $600 awards.  Participating clubs may award one scholarship for every 2,000 alumni living in their county or club area.  The Summit County Club is entitled to award three scholarships and the club adds $700 to the University's award so that each of our three candidates receive a total of $1,300.

Scholarship forms are typically mailed in November to counselors in twenty-five Summit County schools.  Students are asked to return their applications with a transcript in January.
