FRIENDSHIP FOOD BAGS Project
In response to the growing hunger & Food insecurity in our local senior population, Senior Friendship Centers of Lee County (the local provider of Meals on Wheels for Seniors and the 12 Friendship Cafes where qualified seniors dine at no cost) will be coordinating an ongoing food collection and distribution program for some of our community living seniors who are in need of food assistance and often homebound.
THE APPEAL: Understanding that the Big Ten Alliance is a collection of like minded persons whose focus is on volunteering and community involvement, we are seeking to gain support from those persons we feel are the most understanding of our senior’s unique needs.
THE PROJECT SCOPE: Deliver enough nonperishable foods to at least 30 local seniors (see friendly food drive list…..available from SFC).
THE NEED: The Ohio State Alumni Club of Southwest Florida will volunteer for just one day this year (Jan 19). Groups will be allowed to put their information in the “food bags” identifying the program that delivered the food.
THE ROLE OF FOOD COLLECTION: Senior Friendship Centers will be coordinating with the local Aging Network Providers & businesses to conduct food drives specific to senior’s unique dietary needs at least once a month. We will have the neccessary amount of foods to
fill all the bags.

Brief summary:
* Our club needs 15-20 volunteers for Thursday, Jan 19 . Friendship Food Bag Day
* Hours: 9:00 am to 1:00 pm
* Volunteers can work the morning (assemblying the food bags 9:00 am to
11:00 am), or work (11:00 am to 1:00 pm) delivering the food bags. Most
work both sessions.
* For the food delivery we’ll need at least 10 people (5 teams) for the 5 food routes (usually
5-8 deliveries per route
* volunteers use their own car (SUV are easiest to work out of)
* Teams are given mapquest directions to each home/condo
* There is a brief orientation prior to the delivery teams going out
* Each participant is asked to bring 3-5 items of nonperishable food (from the food drive list)
This can be emailed to each person as they sign up.

One last opportunity for Luke Fickell to get his career record as a head coach above .500, and of course, with last year’s results being vacated, another opportunity to get the SEC monkey off Ohio State’s back (even though we all witnessed the beating of Arkansas ON THE FIELD).
For those seeking to attend, the game takes place Monday, January 2nd at 1:00 p.m. in Jacksonville, Florida. Tickets go on sale Monday at 10 am EST, starting at $60.
The Alumni Club of Southwest Florida will be having our game watch party at BW3 in Ft. Myers. Get there early to squeeze out the obnoxious Gator fans. Huge prize raffle including Coach Urban Meyer autographed merchandise.
