STUDENT NEWS

Ryan Torres was recently elected president of ASCE Student Chapter. More details can be found at www.ceegs.ohio-state.edu/asce/students.html.

Justin reported that the ASCE student chapter newsletter is out and will be available in the near future at http://www.ceegs.ohio-state.edu/asce/.

Justin presented the results of the student teams competition. They are: Surveying-1st place; Concrete Canoe-4th place; Steel Bridge-disqualified for not meeting all design criteria; Timber Bridge-results unknown at this time; Environmental-2nd place; and Construction Estimation-3rd place. The canoe team was satisfied with their finish and felt they had met their goals. They were able to build a thinner walled, stronger, and lighter canoe than last year. There may be a problem with the alignment of the mold which has affected the team's ability to keep the canoe on course. Despite receiving fewer donations than expected, the team spent less than expected and should carry a balance of just under $2,000 for next year's effort.

Luke Bolzenius has been elected as the next president of the ASCE Central Ohio Student Chapter.
