The advantage of our location is that it is relatively early in the race, which means that volunteers will be able to leave long before the race is over. Also, the location serves both the full and half marathons. This way, we get to cheer on all of the Big 10 runners, regardless of which race they are running.
All volunteers receive:
+ Official Race Crew t-shirt
+ Race Goodie Bag
+ Entry into Race Crew-only prize drawings
+ Community service hours (if needed)
+ Refreshments and snacks
All volunteers should dress in appropriate school t-shirts, hats, etc. Also, please bring any school banners, pennants, flags, etc., to help cheer on the runners.
There is a contest with cash and other prizes for the best staffed (e.g., most supportive) water stations. Visit the volunteer web site for more details.
Anyone with questions should contact Chris Mordy (chris.mordy@gmail.com -- Michigan Club) or Don Zatyko (don@osusandiego.com -- The Ohio State Club) for more details.
Event Day Details
Thank you in advance for your participation at the Big 10 Water Station. We are looking forward to a great time together. Here are some details for the race day.
Parking
1. Volunteers should arrive between 4:30 a.m. and 4:45 a.m. on Sunday, June 5, 2011. We will be setting up tables, pouring cups for the water, mixing the Cytomax (energy drink), and generally preparing the water station for the runners.
2. Our station is just south of Friar's Road on the 163. Here is a map showing the location of our station. Please print and bring the map with the parking pass (below).
3. You will be able to drive on the southbound 163 from the Friar's Road entrance. The police will be controlling access, so you will need to print this water station parking pass printed on PINK paper. (If you don't have pink paper, the police may slow you down to question you.)
4. There will be parking on the right side of the freeway. You must get on the freeway no later than 5:30 a.m. to ensure that you can park near the water station. If you are later, then you may need to park at Fashion Valley and walk to the water station.
5. If you have friends who want to participate, please have them sign up at
